This winter we have two Performance Workshops to chose from!

"12TH Night"

Like many of Shakespeare's comedies, this one centres on mistaken identity. The leading character, Viola, is shipwrecked on the shores of Illyria during the opening scenes. She loses contact with her twin brother, Sebastian, whom she believes dead. Posing as a man and masquerading as a young page under the name Cesario, she enters the service of Duke Orsino. Orsino is in love with the bereaved Lady Olivia, whose brother has recently died, and decides to use "Cesario" as an intermediary. Olivia, believing Viola to be a man, falls in love with this handsome and eloquent messenger. Viola, in turn, has fallen in love with the Duke, who also believes Viola is a man, and who regards her as his confidant.

When Sebastian arrives on the scene, confusion ensues. Mistaking him for Viola, Olivia asks him to marry her, and they are secretly betrothed, with a promise to be married when the time is right. Finally, when the twins appear in the presence of both Olivia and the Duke, there is more wonder and awe at their similarity, at which point Viola reveals she is really a female and that Sebastian is her lost twin brother. The play ends in a declaration of marriage between the Duke and Viola, Toby and Maria, and Olivia and Sebastian, though their marriages are never actually seen.

"Fractured Fairy Tales"

Helga and Olga Grime claim that they, not their brothers, are the true fairy tale writers. They say their brothers changed the ending, and now they want to show the world the true fairy tales, as they were supposed to be. So, they hired a rag tag group of actors, and this is the result. Hansel and Gretel are FBI agents, a kiss obsessed frog and a strange woman named Lulu that won't stop ruining the show.

Auditions

What is required?

Stone Soup Theatre auditions are meant to bring the best out of student actors. Our goal is to cast all kids who audition. Occasionally we will recommend a class if an auditioner does not seem ready for performing. The main thing is to do your best and we will do our best to make you feel comfortable.

What you will do at the audition:

  • After being assigned a specific day and time, please arrive 15 minutes early, prepared to work. You must let us know in advance is there is any problem with attending the audition at your assigned time.
  • Auditions will be held at our new space at 4029 Stone Way N.
  • Audition slots are 30 minutes. You will be with 5 other actors in that time with a chance to show your abilities individually and as a group.
  • Please prepare a 30 second monologue from Shakespeare or a poem.

What we are looking for:

  • Energy and desire to be a part of an ensemble and create a professional production.
  • A well prepared audition lets us know that you are looking forward to an experience that will mean a lot to you.
  • We want to see that you can work well with a team whether you have a leading role or an ensemble part.

Other Information:

  • "Fractured Fairy Tales" will end with 2 performances, while "12th" has a much larger commitment with a 3 week-end run.
  • It is important to note that while "12th Night" has only two rehearsals per week, we will add rehearsals when it comes closer to opening. "Fractured Fairy Tales" remains the same with one rehearsal per week.

Thank you for your interest in Stone Soup Theatre. Join us in a great adventure and help celebrate the opening of our new space in 2008-9.
