Residencies, After-school, and Summer Camp ProgramsTeachers can choose between Drama Skills Programs, Performance Programs or Theme-Based Academic Programs. Programs range from a few hours to several weeks, several months, or an entire school year. The following Skills program are listed by grade level. Skills Programs - Grades (K-2) & Grades (2-3)Story DramaIt's exciting to teach new readers how to lift a story from the page with no more than their bodies and imaginations. Young ones become excited about reading through the art of simple play! ImprovisationKids will have great fun improvising characters and story lines. We will teach them to trust making it up as they go, while creating scenes and characters that express a wide range of emotions. Skills Programs - Grades (3 and Up)Intro to actingThis class is the foundation of acting training and will teach character development, movement, voice work and scene study. ImprovisationThis class uses the brilliant child-oriented work of Viola Spolin to introduce the art of improvisation. Through games and exercises, student will learn focus, concentration, character development and story telling. Musical TheatreCome explore the wonderful world of musical theatre. Each student will perform a solo song and participate in a fun group number. Selections can be made from Best of Broadway, Jazz, Rock, and Broadway Junior selections. Script-WritingLet your students do the writing. There is no greater imagination that that of a child. It is up to the director to guide and hone, teach that good writing has a structure, a method and a purpose. Students write their own plays and put on a performance to be proud of. It is too much fun for words! Fractured Fairy TalesRocky and Bullwinkle got nothin' on us! Here at Stone Soup Theatre, we have dipped into some childhood classics and came up with a few new twists and fresh interpretations. Whether it is 'The Frog Prince' who just wants to go back to his lily pay or the revenge of Cinderella's stepsisters, the students in this class will get to put their own stamp on these great old stories. Theme Based Programs - Grade (3-12)Using Theatrical exercises teaching artists work with students to develop acting skills while exploring Non-theatre curriculum. Performance ProgramsLeave the details of the school play to us. We will provide a director and adaptation of children's literature, 30-60 minutes in length. Stone Soup Teaching artists will help kids explore the fun and excitement that goes hand-in-hand with creating live theatre.
