Wednesday 7-9pm 6 weeks
Whether you have always wanted to be an actor or you already are one who just needs to get back to basics, the Skills class is designed to help individuals connect to the basics of acting. We provide a gentle, supportive introduction for the VERY beginning acting student or professionals such as teachers, lawyers and public speakers. Through the use of the various techniques, actors learn to identify physical habits and patterns of movement that interfere with the fullest use of self. Improve your coordination, ease and self-confidence. The Skills Class is an individual’s first step towards confidence, trust and exploration within the joy of acting.

Culminating in a presentation of scenes, a beginning scene study class exposes a student to a myriad of new experience. We will teach you how to sift this information into practical acting skills. You will learn to trust and act on your instincts, those of a partner, get in touch with the thrill and energy that comes from creating moment to moment truth and learn to search for a character’s true person.

Tune up your monologues and stand out from the rest. "Mock auditions" are staged to teach students what to expect from an actual audition. Students will have help selecting two contrasting monologues which will best accentuate their skills. We will teach you how to stage your monologues from the moment you enter your audition and give advice on resumes and pictures.

In this enjoyable class you will discover the theatrical toolbox that directors use to bring a script to life on stage. Find out to how to read a script and analyze it for the stage, learn how actors work and how to guide them as they create a role, create dynamic stage pictures and discover how you, as a director, would collaborate with a designer to make the perfect setting for your play.

This fun and intensive class will help you find and prepare two contrasting Shakespeare monologues. We will search the lesser-known plays for material that both suits you and shows your strengths. Using a variety of exercises, we will explore each piece to give you unique and strong audition pieces, as well as giving you the tools to analyze Shakespeare’s text to make it your own. We will cover scansion, phrasing, and rhetoric as well as character development. Formed as an intensive, this class replicates the rehearsal process to enable the student to work swiftly. Stage or film, the approach to the work is the same. Rise above and beyond methods and develop (or fine tune) the inner working of your craft to create highly detailed, specific work. Actors and Directors work together in this very special environment structured to give the artists freedom from the constraints of egos in order to truly and deeply peel off the layers of their characters.
